Probably not an easy song for beginners to learn but Guns N Roses November Rain was and still is a huge hit for the band and main piano player Axl Rose. It's a beautiful piano part during the verses and it continues through out the song. You can find versions of this song to play it in a stripped down piano only version online.
Create an original strong, singable hook that you can't get out of your mind after hearing it a few times. If you can't come up with this, chances are you will not have a hit song. Once you do have a strong hook, proceed to (4).
The reason I bring this topic up in the context of the Wizard of Oz, is to show you that even pop songs 2021 (my latest blog post) that were written back in 1939 were benefiting from the idea of contrast between sections. In previous articles I've talked about this same concept being used in today's us top songs 2021. Eventually I started to see him socially on occasion. When I came to Nashville, he would ask if I'd come over and visit, so I remember a couple of times we went over to his office, and then we sat and he was eating some lunch, and another time we went out to lunch.
You didn't have guitars in people's houses where I grew up. It was an upper middle class white suburb. You might have the piano or a violin, maybe. Kids took orchestra lessons, they didn't take guitar lessons. Occasionally you might find a banjo in an attic from the old Fred Van Epps classical banjo period from the '20's.
Piano Man - Billy Joel Like Elton John, Billy Joel has many songs that are consistent hits at the piano bar, it's easy to see why, Billy spent the early part of his career playing piano bars in New York. This song chronicles what he saw night after night from his spot at the keyboard, which are the same things most of still see as piano bar entertainers. A timeless classic outside of the piano bar, but in the piano bar it's a theme song made to be sung loud. And drunk if possible.
1990 also saw music shift a gear and the names of M. C. Hammer and Janet Jackson being mentioned. More and more African Americans were starting to make an impact on the music scene and that would pave the way for the popularity of African Americans in the music scene. As we all know, the music scene of today is heavily dominated by African Americans.
TR: Weren't there some of your tunes that got held back by the record company because they didn't think they would sell? Was "Vincent" one of those songs that you had written but they wouldn't put it out for some reason?
